CLIL UNIT: WHAT IS IT MADE OF?
Unidad dirigida a 4º curso de primaria, en el área Science.
Esta unidad abarca el tema de los materiales, dividiéndolos en naturales y artificiales, indagando sobre sus propiedades y usos. Se desarrolla también el tema de los cambios tanto físicos como químicos en los materiales y los cambios de estado.
El contenido de la lengua que se va a trabajar consiste principalmente en el vocabulario de los distintos materiales que se van a conocer, así como algunas propiedades: Wood, metal, glass, flexibility, transparency; adjetivos (liquid, solid, hard, soft, natural) y estructuras verbales como "made of", "used for", "comes from".
Las tarea producto final es la representación de una obra de teatro en grupos con guiñoles realizados a través de material reciclable, se facilita material de andamiaje de producción, un popplet con la estructura e instrucciones.
Otra tarea final es la elaboración de un proyecto en el que se investigue sobre un material para producir una composición escrita a través de un guión modelo.
Las competencias básicas que se desarrollan a través de esta unidad didáctica son:
Linguistic, interaction with the environment, social, digital, autonomy and personal initiative, learn to learn.
Los objetivos son:
-To identify the main materials objects are made of and where they come from.
-To know some of the properties of these materials.
-To learn the utilities of these materials.
-To understand how material changes happen.
-To distinguish natural or artificial materials.

-Introduction of the vocabulary through some questions, try to identify what the object of class are made of, the showing and association of flash and wordcards, Game: I spy with my little eye….
-Listening to the story of "The three little pigs", three times and complete some questions.
-Watch a video of the story "Three little pigs", speak about the video, the materials, the properties…

-Fill a table with the properties and characteristics of some material their going to experiment with: wood, clay, metal, plastic etc.
-Identification of material through a ppt, revision and complete some worksheets, fill the gaps, association exercises, organization of the information.

Experiment of evaporation with salted water, write down the data in a register.

4th
|
-Project about a material, their origin, their uses, and some other information, with the help of a writing template, dictionaries, and translator.
-Quiz about the most important contents of the unit.

Do a crossword on line

Final task
Write a story about materials and their properties in groups of 4. Preparation of the script, the crafts and rehearsal of the plays.

Show of the plays with puppets made of recycled materials, commentaries, evaluation…

Se evaluará el grado de cumplimiento de los objetivos, la participación, la actitud y el trabajo en grupo a través de un registro de observación, la revisión de ejercicios y actividades, el desarrollo del proyecto individual y la co-evaluación de las obras de teatro por parte de los otros grupos.

Me parece una unidad muy didáctica que aporta variadas y enriquecedoras actividades para los alumnos, tales como crosswords, un cuento, video, powerpoints, experimentos... Sin darse cuenta, los alumnos irán afianzando conocimientos y la lengua. Enhorabuena!
